COMET_CASE_012 project description

COMET Case Study 012: Gravity Waves

This case spans the tornadic outbreak on Palm Sunday (27 March 1994) in Alabama. Gravity waves were triggered with deep convection that developed in northeastern Texas. The waves modulated mesolows that developed along a cold front and acted to force the severe convection in Alabama. For additional details on this case, use your WWW browser to follow the "Description/Summary" link.

This case was presented during the COMAP-97 (COMET Mesoscale Analysis and Prediction) Course and was developed in collaboration with Professor Steve Koch of North Carolina State University. The case was also presented at the joint NWS-NCSU workshop on 11-12 Aug 1998: "Cold Fronts Aloft, Gravity Waves, and Mesocyclones in the Southeastern United States".
