Active Layer Depth and Snow Depth, Kuparuk Basin, 1995 Ken Hinkel, University of Cincinnati The seven data files include measurements of 1995 active layer and snow depth made on the 1 km ARCSS grids in the Kuparuk Basin. Ancillary information is also included. The files are comma-delimited as some data are missing. Each contains 121 rows (plus column heading row), representing the 121 surveyed grid nodes spaced at 100 meters. The columns are arranged as follows: Column A: Grid Node (1-121, as suggested by LAII protocol). Begins in NW corner. Column B: Northing (UTM) at grid node. Column C: Easting (UTM) at grid node. Column D: Elevation (m) at grid node. Column E: Snow depth (Spring 1995 at grid node, in cm). Usually average based on 2-4 measurements at grid node. Column F-End: Active layer depth (cm), with column heading (al-) giving date of measurement at grid node. In most cases, represents an average measurement based on two readings. This arrangement allows for easy importation into any software package. Furthermore, it will expedite data entry since new columns are simply added and labeled in spreadsheet. Columns can then be compared or isolated for mapping.
