ARCSS054: Current Meter, Temperature, and Salinity Data from the Chukchi Sea DATA SET DESCRIPTION: Current meter, temperature and salinity data from an instrumented mooring in Barrow Canyon in the NE Chukchi Sea. PURPOSE: Monitor flow and water properties and their variations at this juncture between the Chukchi Sea and Arctic Ocean. PI RESPONSIBLE: Thomas Weingartner Institute of Marine Science University of Alaska Fairbanks, AK 99775-1080 907-474-7993 weingart@ims.alaska.edu INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUAL DATA FILES: bc9293mg.dat These data were collected opportunistically and not with NSF funding. Beginning date/time (GMT) 24-sep-1992 19:00:00 Ending date/time (GMT): 24-sep-1993 19:00:00 NUMBER OF DATA RECORDS 8761 collected hourly Mooring Location: 71 deg 1.815' N; 159 deg 34.016W in upper Barrow Canyon Bottom Depth: 79m Instrument Depth: Speed and Direction: 76m RCM4 Temperature and Salinity: 58m RCM4 Based on the difference in pre and post-calibration values we estimate that random errors in salinity are ~0.3 and in temperature of 0.1. The temperature sensor on the RCM4 at 76m failed due to a sticking encoder. There were a high number of rotor stalls, e.g., "zero" speeds on the RCM4 at 58m. We have combined the good data from both instruments into one data set to be representative of Barrow Canyon. bc9394mg1.dat Portions of these data were published in: Weingartner, T.J., D. J.
