Summer Surface Hydrographic Measurements in the Laptev Sea, 1980 to 2000 DATA ORGANIZATION Data Format The data are distributed as compressed (zipped) comma-separated ASCII text files. The first column indicates the longitude (E) and the second column indicates the latitude (N). The third column indicates either temperature or salinity. File and Directory Structure Each year, 1980 through 2000, has both a temperature file and a salinity file. Hydrographicloc.txt provides the year, month, and day that measurements were taken, and the longitude and latitude of the station location. Hydrographicdata.txt provides additional information about data collection methods and a list of references for further reading. Each temperature file contains these parameters: Longitude (E) Latitude (N) Temperature (deg C) Each salinity file contains these parameters: Longitude (E) Latitude (N) Salinity (psu) Hydrographicloc.txt contains these parameters: Year (YYYY) Month (MM) Day (DD) Longitude (E) Latitude (N) File Naming Convention Data are compiled into one file for each year. Files beginning with "S" contain salinity; files beginning with "T" contain temperature. Example: T2000.csv contains temperature values for data collected during the summer of 2000. File Size All years are zipped into single files for temperature and salinity. Each zipped file is about 50 KB. Unzipped files for individual years range from 12 KB to 16 KB. DOCUMENTATION Please be sure to read the complete documentation in detail before working with the data.
