---TITLE: Alexandra Fiord Plant Nutrient Content ---AUTHORS: -Jeff Welker (PI), Jace Fahnestock (co-PI) -Natural Resource Ecology Lab, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO 80523-1499 -tel. 970-491-1796; fax 970-491-1965; e-mail jwelker@nrel.colostate.edu, jace@nrel.colostate.edu ---DATA SET OVERVIEW: -This data represents growing season (2000-2001) carbon and nitrogen dynamics of leaves of dominant high arctic plant species in dry, mesic, and wet tundra ecosystems at Alexandra Fiord, Ellesmere Island, Canada (78.54N 75.55W), under ambient environmental conditions and under long-term warmed conditions. Experimental warming was begun in 1992 using International Tundra Experiment (ITEX) open-topped chambers (OTCs). The OTCs are hexagonal in shape and are constructed of transparent fiberglass. They typically raise air and soil temperatures by 1 to 4°C. -The data set shows C and N content of leaves of dominant species in dry, mesic, and wet high arctic ecosystems under ambient and warmed conditions. -The data are currently from 20000627 to 20000808. ---DATA COLLECTION and PROCESSING: -Plant material is collected, dried to a constant weight, and subsequently ground to a fine powder. Carbon and nitrogen concentrations of subsamples of the ground plant material is determined by coupled combustion/reduction and gas chromatography (CHN-1000, LECO Corporation, St. Joseph, Michigan). ---DATA FORMAT: -Data are space-delimited ASCII and headings are Date (of collection), Species, Site, Treatment (ambient or warmed), %C, %C-StdDev, %C-StdErr, %N, %N-StdDev, %N-StdErr, C:N ratio -Missing data indicated with -99.99. -DATA VERSION = 1.0 (15 March 2002), PRELIMINARY. ---DATA REMARKS: -Data should be considered preliminary and are subject to change in future versions of the data as further analyses are carried out.
