Description:
Beginning October 3, 2007, the upwelling longwave irradiance (up_long_hemisp, aka "UIR") 
started to spike to unreasonable values positively offset from the co-located E13 by over 
100W/m2.  On January 17 2008 the UIR values become consistently bad due to bad UIR dome 
thermistor wiring.  Problem appears as a resistive offset in the dome thermistor but due 
to nature of failure (unknown cable problem) data correction would not yield any better 
data than the co-located E13 UIR instrument that is known to be operating correctly.  
Instrument cable replacement on 4/22 fixed the problem.

Thermopile data (netIR) from this instrument is good.  However, Incoming irradiance data 
is not correctable due to bad UIR dome thermistor wiring within the instrument cable.

On Jan 13th approximately 1400GMT the UPS failed at E4. This affected both the global and 
tracker mounted instruments. The affected measurements are down_short_hemisp(PSP), 
down_short_diffuse(8-48) and direct_normal(NIP) measurements.  The PSP down_short_hemisp 
measurement doesn't rely on the tracker but is power ventilated and is adversely affected by 
daytime solar heating when the ventilator power fails.

On 4/2, the station experienced a power drop after which the tracker was not operational 
until it was reset on 5/1.

instrument) data were bad during this time.  The down_long_hemispheric (PIR) and 
down_short_hemispheric were unaffected by this failure.  Upwelling instruments were also unaffected.  
Three component DQ checks were not valid during this time.

The down_short_hemisp was showing signs of a dirty dome at local solar noon. PM removed 
bird droppings on 5/14.

The down_short_hemisp (PSP) data is not recoverable. Suggest using component sum method to

Description:
When instruments were changed out on 6/25 the UIR (up_long_hemisp measurement) S/N and cal 
coefficient reverted to a previous UIR instrument that was damaged and removed on 
12/28/2007. The UIR S/N should be 31637F3 with corresponding cal K=.2526 instead of applied 
value of K=.2571. 
However, for the PIR longwave instrument in this inverted position (UIR) the K1 term 
contributes approximately 0-7% of the total upwelling longwave signal throughout the day, or 
about 0-30 W/m2.  The cal coefficient is too high by approximately 2%. Thus, the UIR data, 
as is, ranges from 0 to .6 W/m2 too low since this term is always negative.  The 
uncertainty of this instrument is approximately +-10 W/m2 with respect to the WSIG. Reprocessing 
is not recommended.

SGP/SIRS/E1 - Tracker Failure

Description:
On 7/4/2008 the tracker at this site failed.  Affected measurements are 
down_short_diffuse_hemisp (8-48) and short_direct_normal (NIP). These will be inaccurate during this time.  
PM replaced the tracker on 7/8/2008 2150.  Note that the down_short_hemisp (PSP) 
instrument was also extremely dirty during this time (see D080702.1 and DQPR 1990).  This pretty 
much makes all data from this station unusable during this time.  longwave measurements 
will be relatively unaffected by these failures.

Description:
The downwelling diffuse (8-48) data were dropping out intermittently beginning on the 
night of 8/5. Ops repaired damaged cable on 11/12 but problem was last observed on 10/27.
