CEOP Reference Site Data Set Metadata Procedures

The documentation (i.e. the "Readme" file) that accompanies each CEOP Reference Site Data Set
is as important as the data itself. This information permits collaborators and other analysts
to become aware of the data and to understand any limitations or special characteristics of
data that may impact its use elsewhere. The data set documentation should accompany all data
set submissions and contain the information listed in the outline below. The following outline
(and content) should be adhered to as closely as possible to make the documentation consistent
across all data sets. A documentation file submission must accompany each submitted data set.

1.0 DATA SET OVERVIEW:

Data file is compiled for the CEOP project under responsibility of BALTEX.

Time period covered by the data: 01.01.2005-31.12.2008

Data are measured at Sodankyla Arctic Research Centre's Observatory (Observatory Site A):
Coordinates (WGS-84) lat: 67 22' 00,0" lon: 26 37' 44,6" elev: 179,2 m a.s.l,

Operational data (i.e. whole data set): Finnish Meteorological Institute.


2.0 INSTRUMENTATION DESCRIPTION:

Vaisala RS90/RS92


3.0 DATA COLLECTION AND PROCESSING:

Radiosondes are launched in principle two times a day (12 and 24 h UTC).
Since 14.6.2006 11:48 UTC soundings are made with Vaisala Autosonde.

No gap filling applied.


6.0 DATA REMARKS:

The data set consists of a gzipped tar file that will  expand after untar into individual
sounding files named in the form yymmddhh.dat. The files are in columnar ASCII.

The files contain operational ascents at 2 sec. resolution. 

Columns in .dat file (for example first line from file 02093023.dat):

7.0 REFERENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Finnish Meteorological Institute must be stated as data source when the data are used.
