Training Data DC3 PASIV Archive https://data.eol.ucar.edu/dataset/353.223 Summary This dataset contains the training data for the DC3 National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) Particle Size, Image, and Velocity (PASIV) instrument. The PASIV probe is a balloonborne microphysics probe used to collect in situ microphysics observations inside severe convection. The PASIV is a hybrid instrument system that combines a videosonde employing an HD camcorder with a Parsivel laser disdrometer to provide redundant in situ measurements of the particle distribution. The readme document describes the data characteristics from the probe observations taken during the Deep Convective Clouds and Chemistry (DC3) experiment in the spring of 2012. Two cases are archived here, 21 June 2012 and 29 May 2012. These two cases include the individual particle detections and their associated physical characteristics that are hand classified into particle types. The data were used as a training dataset to train an automated classification algorithm and provide verification.
