OPUS-I: Organization of Persistent Upwelling Structures - I

Summary

The goal of the Organization of Persistent Upwelling Structures (OPUS) experiment was to understand the role of persistent upwelling structures in the relationship between circulation and plankton distribution. QueenAir, A-80 aircraft measurements were utilized in order to establish the role of local wind stress in determining the three-dimensional characteristics of the synoptic scale structure as well as sea surface temperature and chlorophyll distribution throughout the study area. This project took place off the coast of California between Piedras Blancos Point and Point Conception.
