PHOENIX-78: Project PHOENIX - 1978
Summary
The main objective of project PHOENIX, named after the convective boundary layer, like the bird of mythology, which rises anew each day out of the "ashes" of the Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) from the previous day, was to describe the structure and scale of the momentum, temperature and moisture perturbations which are of primary importance to the storage and transport of energy within the growing PBL energetics, and to compare these results to the results from the numerical models. This project utilized both QueenAir, A-80 and B-80 aircrafts to collect data.
