Some feeling for the character of the ice deformation can be obtained by looking at the way the regular 5-km grid deforms over the time interval between two images, which is one day in this EXAMPLE. The green cells are those which have deformed by more than a certain threshold.

Here is the same data overlaid on the SAR image of January 11, 1998. The SHEBA site is at the center of the yellow box, which measures 60 x 60 km.

This close-up of the 60 x 60 km box has the ship at the center. Again the green grid lines outline those cells that have deformed by more than a certain threshold.
