PACS Brazilian Daily Precipitation 1.0 General Description The Brazilian Daily Precipitation data is one of several precipitation datasets provided in the Pan American Climate Studies (PACS). This precipitation dataset contains daily precipitation data from across Brazil in binary format. The data covers that area 80W - 30W; 40S - 10N and the time period January 1, 1960 - December 31, 1997. Data from this source were not quality controlled by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research/ Joint Office for Science Support (UCAR/JOSS). 2.0 Detailed Data Description The Brazilian Daily Precipitation data was collected from the following sources: CMCD/INPE, INMET, FUNCEME/CE, LMRS/PB, EMPARN/RN, DMRH/PE, DHME/PI, CEPES/SE, NMRH/AL, SRH/BA, CEMIG-SIMGE/MG, SEAG/ES, SIMEPAR/PR, and CLIMERH/SC. The Brazilian Daily Precipitation dataset is provided in binary format with a resolution of 1.0 degree x 1.0 degree (lon, lat). The analysis scheme is a modified Cressman (1959) Scheme (Glahn et al. 1985; Charba et al. 1992). Quality Control provided by NCEP/CPC include a Duplicate Station Check and a Data Check ( buddy check ). These data were not quality controlled by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research/ Joint Office for Science Support. 2.1 Detailed Format Description The Brazilian Daily Precipitation dataset is provided in binary format. The data can be displayed using the GrADS software. A GrADS control file and a FORTRAN code to read the data are provided with this dataset. 2.2 Data Remarks None. 3.0 Quality Control Processing These data were not quality controlled by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research/Joint Office for Science Support. 4.0 References None.
