Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E19 - Reprocess: Incorrect calibration coefficients |
DataStreams: | sgpsirs20sE19.a0, sgpsirsE19.b1 |
Description: | Sometime on 10/13 the SIRS datalogger reverted to the old program used for the previous set of coefficients (i.e. before the scheduled 9/13 shortwave instrument swapout). Coefficients were such that the program change didn't result in easily discernable changes in the data. The longwave instruments were not affected. The Coefficients applied during this time were as follows (marked "Incorrect"): Incorrect "Diffuse PSP: 106.83 W/(m^2*mV)\n", Correct "Diffuse PSP: 113.35 W/(m^2*mV)\n", Incorrect "PSP-US: 119.40 W/(m^2*mV)\n", Correct "PSP-US: 117.97 W/(m^2*mV)\n", Incorrect "NIP: 120.41 W/(m^2*mV)\n", Correct "NIP: 121.72 W/(m^2*mV)\n", Incorrect "PSP-DS: 120.26 W/(m^2*mV)\n", Correct "PSP-DS: 122.52 W/(m^2*mV)\n", Shortwave data can be corrected by dividing by "Incorrect" coefficient and multiplying "Correct" coefficient. (e.g. down_short_diffuse_hemisp(cor) = down_short_diffuse_hemisp*(113.35/106.83)) |

Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E22 - Tracker failure |
DataStreams: | sgpsirs20sE22.a0, sgpsirsE22.b1 |
Description: | The E22 tracker failed during the specified time periods. Power cycling the tracker restored normal operation both times. Adversely affected instruments are the down_short_diffuse (8-48) and short_direct_normal (NIP). |

Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E18 - Instrument noise problem |
DataStreams: | sgpsirs20sE18.a0, sgpsirsE18.b1 |
Description: | Starting May 12th 2007 DIR experiencing persistent, intermittent data dropouts and noise. PM found a damaged PIR cable and repaired 01/02/08 2240GMT. Noise seems to be unbiased and dropouts are beyond QC limits making QC flags a possible option in filtering for good data. However, using data during this period is not recommended. |

Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E16 - Loose connections |
DataStreams: | sgpsirs20sE16.a0, sgpsirsE16.b1 |
Description: | The down_short_hemisp (PSP), up_long_hemisp (PIR) and down_long_hemisp_shaded (PIR) start dropping out 12/18 and eventually go missing at 19:05 GMT on 1/03/08. Problem is diurnal but inconsistent. PM found a loose power cable on the mux and repaired on 1/16 1745. Missing data are not recoverable. However, during the initial period of infrequent missing data from 12/18 to 1/3/08 the user can potentially rely on DQ flags to exclude poor data instead of the entire data set. |

Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E18 - Ventilator Fan Failure |
DataStreams: | sgpsirs20sE18.a0, sgpsirsE18.00, sgpsirsE18.b1 |
Description: | At the start time specified the PSP (down_short_hemisp) ventilator fan failed. PM replaced the fan 6/30/2008 2110. Ventilator failure does adversely affect radiometer measurements but the extent has not been quantified. Mentor suggests using component sum method detailed in SIRS instrument handbook where down_short_hemisp = down_short_diffuse + short_direct_normal * cos (zenith angle) for each time record. |

DataStreams: | sgpsirs20sE21.a0, sgpsirsE21.00, sgpsirsE21.b1 |
Description: | Start time is uncertain due to length of time this problem existed. During the time frame specified the PSP (down_short_hemisp) and 8-48 (down_short_diffuse_hemisp) ventilator fans failed. PM replaced the fans 7/1/2008 1500. Ventilator failure does adversely affect thermopile radiometer measurements but the extent has not been quantified. The 8-48 is significantly less affected than the PSP. Mentor suggests using component sum method detailed in SIRS instrument handbook where down_short_hemisp = down_short_diffuse + short_direct_normal * cos (zenith angle) for each time record. |

DataStreams: | sgpsirs20sE21.a0, sgpsirsE21.b1 |

DataStreams: | sgpsirs20sE16.a0, sgpsirsE16.b1 |
Description: | The short_direct_normal/NIP data spiked a few times and then completely failed resulting in missing values (-9999) for this time period. The short_direct_normal data during this time period is not recoverable. However, it can be reconstructed using the following shortwave instrument relationship for each minute of data: short_direct_normal = (down_short_hemisp - down_short_diffuse)/cos(zenith angle). |
