Overview: PISTON stands for the Propagation of Intra-Seasonal Tropical OscillatioN was conducted in the August-October 2018 period over the northern Western Pacific tropical region. While numerous tropical intra-seasonal oscillations exist, PISTON will primarily target the Boreal Summer Intraseasonal Oscillation (BSISO). The BSISO defines the northward and eastward movement of the Asian monsoon during northern-hemispheric (boreal) summertime. This oscillation has been observed to impact weather across the Maritime Continent and into the southeastern portions of continental Asia, and even weather within the United States. The BSISO is rather complex, and PISTON is therefore an extensive field campaign, involving both intensive numerical modeling and observational activities. read_edt.f95 - fortran program for reading edt (L0) ASCII data read_upaL2_eol.f - fortran program for reading L2 and L3 ASCII data read_upaL4.f - fortram program for reading L4 ASCII data PISTON_sonde_qc_V0.pdf - QC documentation directory level 0 - raw ASCII hi-res data (edt format at Thompson and Mirai) level 1 - ASCII hi-res data in csv format level 2 - ASCII hi-res data in NCAR EOL format level 3 - ASCII hi-res data in NCAR EOL format with corrections if needed level 4 - ASCII data in uniform 5-hPa vertical resolution with QC flags netcdf - level 3 and 4 data in netcdf format skewts - skewt plots and sounding parameters for all sites and soundings
