This archive contains the data from the ADCP on mooring N40 For further information, please contact Dr. Tom Weingartner weingart@ims.uaf.edu (907) 474-7993 Seth Danielson seth@ims.uaf.edu (907) 474-7834 at Institute of Marine Science, School of Fisheries and Ocean Science, University of Alaska Fairbanks 905 N. Koyukuk Dr., Fairbanks, AK, 99775-7220, USA, FAX (907) 474-7204 ========================================================================================================================= Meta data ========= 1) Platform: Bottom-anchored oceanographic mooring in the Bering Sea. 2) Project title: BEST Bering Shelf Project (Bering Ecosystem Study) 3) Data collection dates: July 2009 to July 2010 4) PI: Thomas Weingartner (weingart@ims.uaf.edu) 5) Data collection method: Moored and un-vaned RDI Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler, upward-looking, sampling every 30 minutes. ( http://www.rdinstruments.com/ ) 6) Data calibration method: - All times are given in UTC. We accept RDI specifications stating the ADCP calibrations remain stable for several years. In addition to the factory calibration, we perform a hard/soft iron removal calibration to remove the influence of the alkaline battery pack. This is done every time a new battery pack is installed in each ADCP prior to deployment. - direction corrected to true north, magnetic declination used = 10 degrees. This was obtained from the NOAA Geophysical Calculator entering the mooring position and a date approximately halfway through the deployment. - data requiring speed of sound in water are corrected by the ADCP using the water temperature measured by the ADCP. - intensity of returned signals is not specially calibrated. 7) Instrumentation used: RDI 300 kHz ADCP 8) Quality control procedures: ADCP data rely on ADCP internal temperature for speed of sound corrections. ADCP Data files are included for all bins up to the surface although bins near the surface contain much larger errors and should be treated with caution. All data within 6% of the distance from the sea surface to the instrument have been removed. Bad data have been replaced with the missing data delimiter "NaN". The following screening paremeters and limits were employed to the extracted data: Correlation Limit: 64 Error Amplitude Limit: 80 Percent Good 3 + Percent Good 4: 80 Out of Range: 5000 Correlation Limit: 64 9) Data format: Space delimited ASCII, formats from header: -- Ancillary Data File: data format and sample line: YYYY MM DD HH mm ss Temp BT_E BT_N BT_V BT_Err BT_d1 BT_d2 BT_d3 BT_d4 HDG Pitch Roll Tilt degC cm/s cm/s cm/s cm/s m m m m deg deg deg deg 123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-1 2009 7 16 4 30 0 NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN -- Water Velocity File: data format and sample line: YYYY MM DD HH mm ss Depth Dir Mag U V W Err C1 C2 C3 C4 EA1 EA2 EA3 EA4 PG1 PG2 PG3 PG4 m deg cm/s cm/s cm/s cm/s cm/s cnt cnt cnt cnt cnt cnt cnt cnt cnt cnt cnt cnt 123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789123456789-1 2009 7 16 4 30 0 32.3 NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN 48 60 17 37 50 70 48 54 0 0 100 0 10) Data collection problems: See item 13) (below) regarding current direction. 11) Other related data sets: Data from temperature-conductivity recorders on this same mooring are also available.
