Transmittance Instrument: Analytical Spectral Devices Ice-1 spectroradiometer.  File format: Files are in the subdirectory TRANSMITTANCE of the OPTICS directory. Filenames are TRNXXXX where XXXX is the date. The file contains information on what kind of ice it was. Contact: perovich@crrel.usace.army.mil While measuring albedo was the primary focus of the optical program, we were also interested in determining the the amount of solar energy transmitted through the ice cover. We measured spectral transmittance for a variety of ice types including cold snow-covered ice, melting snow-covered ice, bare ice, melting ice, ponded ice, and leads. Light transmittance measurements were made using an Analytical Spectral Devices ICE-1 spectroradiometer. This instrument had a spectral range from 380 nm to 860 nm. For transmission measurements the effective range was 400 to 750 nm. It is a dual channel instrument with separate detectors for above and below the ice. Fiber optics probes are used to transmit the from the cosine collectors to the CCD detector array.
