GTS Synoptic Observations 
-------------------------
   This dataset contains the global synoptic observations for each day. This 
data is contained in daily files which are in GEMPAK format. Synoptic stations
typically report on a 6 hourly or 3 hourly basis. This data was collected at
JOSS and may not contain data which was removed from the US GTS feed. In 
addition the reliability of reporting by each station is quite variable. The
period of record for this data is 1/18/99-3/31/99.
