Title: INDOEX: Ron Brown Ancillary Navigation and Meteorological Oceanographic Parameters (Bates) Contact: Timothy Bates NOAA/PMEL 7600 Sand Point Way NE Seattle, WA 98115 Phone: 206 526 6248 Fax: 206 526 6744 Email: bates@pmel.noaa.gov Dataset Description: These data are provided to help those researches who would like high time resolution data to check for episodes of possible ship contamination in their measurements. The data are given in a csv (comma separated value) ASCII format. Users may save the files to a local disk and open them up in a common spreadsheet like Excel. The wind was measured with the PMEL Qualimetrics Skyvane 2100 anemometer which was located at the top of the PMEL aerosol sampling mast. The relative wind speed is in meters per second and the direction is in degrees from the ship's bow. Wind from dead ahead is 0 degrees, wind from the port beam is -90 degrees, wind from the starboard beam is +90 degrees. The 1-minute record from three particle counters (CN) is also given. During conditions of ship contamination, there were noticeable spikes in the CN record. The CN data, available on this page have been edited to remove values when the CN counters were returning bad data (such as when they were low on butyl alcohol, when the butyl alcohol was saturated with water, or during calibration periods). These bad data have been replaced with -99. In this data set the ship contamination has not been edited out. There are also spikes of CN in the data that result from ships passing upwind of the Ronald H Brown. The three CN counters were CN1D, the TSI 3010 that sampled Directly from the sample mast inlet. CN1C, the TSI 3010 Control that sample from a faster sample line that the data system used to detect ship contamination periods, and UFCN1 the TSI 3025, that sampled Ultra Fine particles from the sample mast inlet (all particles > 3 nm diameter). All CN data is in units of particles per cubic centimeter. Please note that there are time gaps in the files, some minutes are missing. Reference: http://saga.pmel.noaa.gov/indoex/rwind/index.html
