World Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN) Data 1.0 General Description This data set contains global lightning location data from the World Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN) for the DYNAMO time period. The data are in a comma-delimited ASCII format. These data were provided by Dr. Robert Holzworth at the University of Washington. 2.0 Data Format Description These data are in a comma-delimited format: UTC date UTC time latitude of stroke longitude of stroke residual error number of WWLLN stations that saw the stroke Each file contains 10 minutes of stroke data starting at the time in the file name. 3.0 File Naming Convention The data files are named as follows: data.WWLLN.yyyymmddhhnn.10min_Lightning_Data.txt where yyyy is the year mm is the month dd is the day of month hh is the UTC hour nn is the UTC minute 4.0 Data Usage Policy and Requested Acknowledgement These data are only for DYNAMO investigators. Do not provide these data to a third party. WWLLN asks that you only publish analysed WWLLN data, you should not publish lists of strokes in a place or region (i.e. maps, statistics, etc are fine, but now reproductions of the data set itself). Note to Authors: Please include this statement in your papers using WWLLN data: "Acknowledgement: The authors wish to thank the World Wide Lightning Location Network (http://wwlln.net), a collaboration among over 50 universities and institutions, for providing the lightning location data used in this paper." 5.0 References http://wwlln.net/ - WWLLN web site
