Data description: Seward Peninsula Tree Establishment Data This file contains data on white spruce recruitment history at treeline sites on the Seward Peninsula. Specific site descriptions, including elevation, latitude/longitude, and general descriptions of vegetation, can be found in the metadata file (REC_ _META.CSV). In general, though, two areas were sampled. Trees were sampled along the floodplain of Bear Creek (a tributary of the Niukluk River) and in adjacent tundra. These sites are Bear Creek Floodplain and Bear Creek Non-floodplain, respectively. Four sites were sampled along the Fox River, ranging from a site at the low end of the forest-tundra ecotone (Sandy Bridge) to a site at the uppermost limit of the forest-tundra ecotone (Horton Creek). The data in the file are the number of trees (reported on a per hectare basis) that established during each of the 10 year periods identified in the file. The first column identifies the end of the 10-year time period (i.e., 1710 indicates the period from 1701-1710). Columns 2-7, identified according Associated graphics files: Bear creek ages.gif (Recruitment history of floodplain and non-floodplain sites at Bear Creek) Fox river ages.gif (Recruitment history of the four Fox River sites)
