MAP: Ivotuk 4 (Moss) Grid Vegetation Map
This file contains a vegetation map of the Ivotuk 4 (Moss) 
Grid on the Arctic Slope, Alaska. The data were collected on 
the grid in 1998. MAT stands for Moist Acidic Tundra 
vegetation type.  Details: The vegetation map was created 
using an aerial photograph of the grid, as well as ground 
data. The aerial photograph was rectified using ENVI image 
processing software and Adobe Photoshop to eliminate oblique 
view angles and create a representation of an aerial 
photograph taken perpendicular to the ground. Adobe 
Photoshop software was used to generate maps from these 
aerial photographs using functions for selecting ranges of 
colors. Results of grip point surveys were used to determine 
the appropriate color range for particular vegetation types. 
When overlapping color ranges are associated with more than 
one vegetation type, knowledge of the site from field work 
was applied to isolate areas and classify each individually. 
Vegetation mapping and aerial photo rectification was 
performed by J.A. Anderson and Donald Walker.
