DATASET OVERVIEW

DATA DESCRIPTION:This dataset contains leaf area index (LAI) measurements taken
at peak biomass at the Sagwon MNT site on the Arctic Slope of Alaska, in 2000.
The data set also contains normalized difference vegetation index  (NDVI)
values for the site.INSTRUMENT DESCRIPTION:LAI data obtained using the LI-COR
LAI-2000 Plant Canopy Analyzer. See this website for details-

DATA COLLECTION AND PROCESSING:LAI measurements were obtained by taking readings
from the LAI meter (one above the canopy, and one below) every meter for the 50
meters along each transect. Four LAI measurements were also taken within each
20 x 50 cm (0.1m2) area biomass harvest area, or "clip", prior to harvesting.
For biomass data see the _biomass.xls file for this site. LAI instrumentation
used was the LI-COR LAI-2000 Plant Canopy Analyzer. NDVI measurements were
obtained from Jia Jiong and Howie Epstein at the University of Virginia. NDVI
values represent mean peak NDVI for the years 1995-1998 at this site.

DATA FORMAT:File Name = smnt_lai_ndvi.xls (Excel format). It is a numeric data
file. File size is 24K. This final version of the data file was submitted to
