ATLAS: Otuk Creek Discharge This dataset contains Otuk Creek discharge data taken by the Snow, Shrubs, and Weather Group at the Ivotuk site as part of the ATLAS project. Measurements were taken every hour during the melt of 2000. See below for the investigator's notes. PI: M. Sturm During the snow melt of 2000, which was extremely rapid, it was not possible to wade the river to measure the discharge. Therefore, we measured the flow from the bridge over Otuk Creek in the following manner: A weight was suspended from a graduated line. This was dropped into the creek from the bridge at 1-m intervals. An observer positioned on the side of the creek read the depth. Chips were dropped into the creek and their transit time recorded over a 25-m course; from this the surface velocity was computed. Combining depth and velocity, the discharge was calculated and used to calibrate a continuous stage height record for discharge.
