TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY STICKNET DOCUMENTATION FOR VORTEXSE DEPLOYMENTS last updated: 8 Dec 2016 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This README file provides information concerning the Texas Tech University StickNet probe data sampling details and data structure from the Vortex SE 2016 project. Primarily, the details concern the array of 16 stationary probes deployed throughout the project in a meso network. For more information please contact Dr. Chris Weiss (Chris.Weiss@ttu.edu) or Aaron Hill (aaron.hill@ttu.edu) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The data set is comprised of daily gzipped tar files that contain separate files for each StickNet probe for that day. Each daily station file contains Sticknet data for one day for a single probe. Data gaps exist within daily files when stations were turned off for troubleshooting or power was lost. All data have been run through an objective QC algorithm. Two flags have been appended to the end of each data string: - a thermodynamic flag (tflag) for potentially erroneous values of T, RH, and/or P - a kinematic flag (wflag) for potentially erroneous values of WS and/or WD Bias correction was applied for all data except those detailed below in *NOTES*. Biases were determined with mass tests before and after the project. Sampling rate for all probes was 10 Hz. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ * STATION INFORMATION * ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --> GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATIONS Probe ID, latitude, longitude, elevation (m), compass heading (GPS obtained) 0101A, 34.6176, -87.1014, 194, 218 0102A, 34.2959, -87.5871, 292, 179 0103A, 34.8551, -86.0017, 515, 212 0104A, 35.3391, -87.0324, 239, 194 0105A, 34.6224, -86.0800, 209, 33 0106A, 34.2149, -87.1619, 245, 166 0107A, 34.19439, -86.79825, 242, 152 0108A, 35.3236, -86.6347, 233, 300 0109A, 35.3045, -87.5185, 318, 167 0110A, 34.1632, -86.3341, 280, 171 0111A, 34.5504, -86.5582, 171, 193 0112A, 34.7254, -87.4625, 176, 177 0213A, 34.9016, -86.5386, 239, 2 0214A, 34.9309, -86.9764, 264, 203 0215A, 35.0380, -87.4719, 245, 194 0216A, 35.3179, -86.0998, 313, (185.3) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ * DATA STRUCTURE * ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --> FILENAME gzipped tar file names TTU_StickNet_YYYYMMDD.tar.gz Within the tar file, each probe file name depicts the probe ID and the day of record Sample: 0101A_20160401.csv Probe: 0101A Date: April 1, 2016 --> DATA The following units represent the data collected: TIME (YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm:ss.s UTC; YYYY - year; MM - month; DD - day; HH - hour; mm - minute; ss - second; s - tenth of second) TEMPERATURE (C) RELATIVE HUMIDITY (%) BAROMETRIC STATION PRESSURE (hPa) WIND SPEED (m/s) WIND DIRECTION (deg) VOLTAGE (V) Sample: 2016-02-27 23:25:57.500,12.0,41.8,984.9,0.3,170.4,10.7,0,0,0216 Time: 2016-02-27 23:25:57.500 T: 12.0 C RH: 41.8 % P: 984.9 hPa windsp: 0.3 m/s winddir: 170.4 deg batt: 10.7 V tflag: 0, Thermo data pass QC wflag: 0, Wind data pass QC ID: 0216 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ * NOTES * ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - Probe 0213A had a bad compass and therefore had to be more precisely aligned to north. - Probe 0213A has NaN wind direction observations after QC check. Included wind directions are from raw files and have not been quality controlled. - Compass heading for probe 0216A in *STATION INFORMATION* was not obtained manually; was recorded from GPS instrument. - Data was not collected for probe 0103A (Crow Mountain) from March 19th to April 17th - There will be gaps in data on April 3rd, 4th and 5th when data files were downloaded from the instruments - Instrument configuration files for 7 stations were altered on March 4th and 5th and therefore data gaps will be present in the respective station files for those dates. Below is a summary of probes, data types, and the times configuration tables were changed. If necessary, correction factors can be provided if corrected data is desired before these dates.
