The best performance 2DS (H or V channel) was selected to represent small size range PSD. Flights 19, 21, 22, 25, and 27 do not have coverage of the large size particles because of the malfunctioning of the HVPS. The small and large size distributions are merged at 750um. The bin particle concentrations in the composite PSD are normalized on the width of the size bins: 3um for FSSP; 10um for 2DS; 150um for HVPS. Processing Software: ECCC D2G Composite ice particle size distribution (PSD) consists of two distributions measured by small and large size range OAPs: typically, 2DS (nominal range 10-1280um) and HVPS (nominal range 150um-19.2mm). The best performance 2DS (H or V channel) was selected to represent small size range PSD. Flights 19, 21, 22, 25, and 27 do not have coverage of the large size particles because of the malfunctioning of the HVPS. The small and large size distributions are merged at 750um. The bin particle concentrations in the composite PSD are normalized on the width of the size bins: 10um for 2DS; 150um for HVPS. Because of the high uncertainty of the depth-of-field definition and contaminations by diffraction artifacts, the first three 2DS size bins were excluded from the composite OAP PSD. The concentrations are for particles that have been classified as ice, given by two methods of measuring any particle, area equivalent diameter and maximal diameter.
