Title: Underway Data Plots from HLY-02-03 Cruise Collected by: Greg Stossmeister UCAR/JOSS P.O. Box 3000 Boulder, CO 80307 Phone:(303)497-8692 Fax:(303)497-8158 e-mail:gstoss@ucar.edu DATASET OVERVIEW: During the second SBI Process Cruise of 2002 (HLY-02-03), underway data was collected aboard the USCGC Healy and some variables of interest were plotted in real time. These plots were loaded into the SBI HLY-02-03 Field Catalog as the they were produced (See http://www.joss.ucar.edu/sbi for field catalog links). The plots included Time series plots of Air Temperature, Dewpoint, Relative Humidity, True Wind Speed and Direction as well as Seabeam Centerbeam depth. These plots encompassed the most recent 24 hour period and were produced twice per day during the cruise. In addition, plan view plots were also produced of the ship track at 2 resolutions that showed the track from the beginning of the cruise, current ship position, completed station locations and expected locations of upcoming stations. These locations were all superimposed on a map of Arctic Ocean Bathymetry (data source: ICBAO, http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/bathymetry/arctic/arctic.html ). These plots were produced every 15 minutes during the cruise. DATA REMARKS: The raw data are plotted in their full temporal resolution. No attempt has been made to perform any filtering or other processing of these data prior to plotting except that which is routinely performed by the U.S. Coast Guard prior to the writing of each data record to a file. In particular, the Seabeam Centerbeam plots show a lot of 0 values in the plots which obviously cannot be real. Since we have little expertise with this instrument, we cannot pinpoint the source of the error. It however may be expected to have something to do with ice passing beneath the hull of the ship as the ship was breaking ice most of the cruise (especially early on and North of the Bering Strait. DATA FORMAT: Data are in png image format.
