Hydro data files "_bot.txt" are spreadsheet bottle data files created 26 NOV 2003 by J. Swift, UCSD/SIO, from versions of SBI bottle data files available that date. The "_bot.txt" data files should be considered a data product. Files are tab-delimited ascii data files with a single space as the missing value indicator. WOCE-type quality codes are used: 2=good, 3=questionable, and 4=bad. Note that this means that known/suspected bad data values will be found in these data files. These bad data are included to avoid potential loss of information. As with the original bottle data files, for some cruises some parameters are shown in both mass and volume units. In the spreadsheet files some parameter names have been changed to more clearly identify the column with the correct units. Potential temperature (theta), potential density (sigma-theta), oxygen percent saturation, AOU, NO, and PO have been calculated and inserted into the spreadsheet data files where feasible. Data users may wish to note that in the upper layers and shallow waters sigma-theta is all-but-identical to "sigma-t". CTD salinities were used in the calculations (as opposed to bottle salinities). Pending discussions with SBI PIs the content of these files may change in a future edition. Please send comments and questions to Jim Swift (jswift@ucsd.edu).
