DYCOMS-II Surface: NOAA/NESDIS California Coast SST Imagery (GIF) 1.0 General Information The NOAA/NESDIS California Coast SST Imagery (GIF) is one of several surface products collected as part of the Dynamics and Chemistry of Marine Stratocumulus Phase II: Entrainment Studies (DYCOMS-II) project field catalog operated by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research/Joint Office for Science Support (UCAR/JOSS; http://www.joss.ucar.edu/dycoms/catalog/). The images are produced by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) every few days and include sea surface temperatures. The products cover the period from 19 - 29 July 2001 and cover the region from about 28 - 41 N and 115 - 135 W. The products were acquired from NOAA/NESDIS (http://www.osdpd.noaa.gov/PSB/EPS/SST/contour.html). All images are in GIF format. 2.0 Data Contact John Sapper (john.sapper@noaa.gov) 3.0 Product Information These products are 14km resolution depictions of sea surface temperature derived from the NOAA-16 polar orbiting satellite over three day periods. 4.0 Quality Control Procedures UCAR/JOSS conducted no quality checks on these data. 5.0 File Naming Convention The file names are structured as follows: SST_map.yyyymmdd_yyyymmdd.cal.gif Where SST_map is the data type yyyy is the year mm is the month dd is the day the first (second) yyyymmdd is the beginning (end) of the period used to derive the SSTs cal is the name of the data set 6.0 References None
