DYCOMS-II Surface: Regional Surface Station Plot Imagery (GIF) 1.0 General Information The Regional Surface Station Plot Imagery (GIF) is one of several surface products collected as part of the Dynamics and Chemistry of Marine Stratocumulus Phase II: Entrainment Studies (DYCOMS-II) project field catalog operated by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research/Joint Office for Science Support (UCAR/JOSS; http://www.joss.ucar.edu/dycoms/catalog/). The images are produced by the UCAR/JOSS every hour and include surface station plots from surface land stations, buoys, and ships of opportunity. The products cover the period from 1 - 29 July 2001 and cover the region from about 26 - 40 N and 112 - 130 W. All images are in GIF format. 2.0 Data Contact Scot Loehrer (loehrer@ucar.edu) 3.0 Product Information These products contain hourly surface data plots over the southwestern US and the nearby Pacific Ocean. It include the surface land stations, buoys and ships of opportunity. Not all stations are plotted (a filter was applied). The format is the typical surface data plotting format. With temperature in pink in the upper left, dew point in pink in the lower left, pressure in pink in the upper right, station identifier in green in the lower right, current weather in yellow in the center left, pressure tendency in yellow in the center right, and in cyan the sky cover and wind barbs. 4.0 Quality Control Procedures UCAR/JOSS conducted no quality checks on these data. 5.0 File Naming Convention The file names are structured as follows: sfc_reg.yyyymmddhh.wx.gif Where sfc_reg is the data type yyyy is the four digit year mm is the two digit month dd is the two digit day hh is the hour (UTC) wx is the name of the data set 6.0 References None
