This file was created by Fred Brechtel (fredb@bnl.gov) to describe the processed data files from the BNL Twin Scanning Electrical Mobility Sizing System operated on Cheju Island during ACE Asia April 4-27, 2001. Before using the data in publications, please consult me. All times and dates in the plots and data files are UTC = Kosan local time minus 9 hours. Daily PDF contour plots of 1 minute dN/dlogDp, dA/dlogDp and dV/dlogDp with associated timelines of integral properties are available. Data file plots for days after April 14th, 2001 have been processed with using a five distribution boxcar averaging. The dNdlogD data have been processed to account for DMA transfer function, CPC smearing, CPC counting efficiency, charging efficiency, and inlet loss effects. Timelines of integral number, area and volume concentrations are included for different particle size ranges and for the total measured size range (5-600nm diameter, dry) for each daily distribution plot. Data files including the 1 minute electrical mobility size distributions are named with the convention: YYMMDDadNdlogD.dat, where 'YY' is '01' for the year, 'MM' is the month '04' for April, and 'DD' is the day, between the 4th and 27th of April. The first row of each dNdlogD file is the Dp array (68 columns with 34 non-zero values) corresponding to the the dNdlogD data. In this first row of Dp data there are 4 integer columns that should be ignored. All data have been corrected to STP (1013.25 mb and 288 K). The format of each subsequent row of dNdlogD data is as follows: Col 1 = UTC Date (string YYYY-MM-DD) Col 2 = UTC Time (string HR:MIN:SEC) Col 3 = UTC Decimal Time of Day (e.g. 0.5 = Noon UTC) Col 4 = Sample Temperature (Kelvin) Col 5 = Sample Pressure (mb) Col 6 = Sample RH (%) Col 7 = One minute averaged UCPC data corresponding to Current Scan (cm^-3 STP) Col 8 = One minute averaged CPC data corresponding to Current Scan (cm^-3 STP) Col 9 = Integral number concentration 5-600nm (cm^-3 STP) Col 10= Integral number concentration for particle Dp>8nm (cm^-3 STP) Col 11= Integral number concentration for particle Dp>15nm (cm^-3 STP) Col 12= Integral number concentration for particle Dp>30nm (cm^-3 STP) Col 13= Integral number concentration for particle Dp>60nm (cm^-3 STP) Col 14= Integral number concentration for particle 2003nm (#/cc) corrected to STP conditions 8. CPC (TSI Model 3010) total number concentration >10nm (#/cc) corrected to STP conditions. NOTE: The Model 3010 CPC was only April 4-8, all values reported in column 8 after April 8th should be disregarded. The format statement used to write the UCPC data files is: format='(a19,1x,f10.8,1x,f5.1,1x,f7.2,1x,f5.1,2(1x,e14.7))' The plots and files can be obtained via anonymous ftp: ftp to 'ftp.ecd.bnl.gov' Login as 'anonymous' use your email as password Change directory to 'pub' Change directory to 'fredb' Change directory to 'aceasia' Use ASCII mode to transfer the 1min UCPC data files Use Binary mode to transfer the PDF plot files Fred Brechtel Sept 21, 2001
