TITLE: NOAA R/V Ron Brown Light, 300-800 nm Data AUTHOR(S): Andrew J. Hind ajhind@googlmail.com Patricia A. Matrai pmatrai@bigelow.org Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences 180 McKown Point W. Boothbay Harbor, ME 04575 USA Phone 207 633 9600; Fax 207 633 9641 1.0 DATA SET OVERVIEW: Data was collected during Legs 1 and 2 of the VOCALS cruise Time period covered by the data: Leg 1 data is from 21-Oct-2008 to 2-Nov-2008 and leg 2 is from 10-Nov-2008 until 01-Dec-2008. Platform: Ronald H. Brown Location: mobile 2.0 INSTRUMENT DESCRIPTION: Satlantic Hyper-OCR hyperspectral radiometer (Satlantic Inc, Nova Scotia, Canada). The instrument measures in the range 355-800 nm 3.0 DATA COLLECTION AND PROCESSING: Data were binned into 5nm bands and averaged hourly. The data are in Watts per meter squared (W m-2) 4.0 DATA FORMAT: Column delimited ASCII Headers The first column contains the start time of the bin and the second is the end time. These are in UTC. The latitude and longitude of the ship at the start time are given in the third and fourth columns in digital degrees. The fifth column onwards contain the binned light between the wavelength in the header and the subsequent bin. i.e. the column labelled “355” contains the binned sum of light between 355 and 360 nm. Only the first seven column headers are given here for brevity but the 5 nm increments continue until the last column which is labelled 795 and contains the light between 795 and 800 nm. Units are Watts per meter squared (W m-2).
