All the NCEP GFS run ouput files are described below: All the data files are in NCEP grib format. Regional 3hourly data files for the Year2000 -------------------------------------------- 3hourly regional grib data files: (wam_2000040100 directory, after unpacking the tar file) a) Surface Flux file names: wam_flxf.2000040100 wam_flxf.2000040103 wam_flxf.2004040106 ................... ................... wam_flxf.2004110100 b) Pressure level file names: wam_pgbf.2000040100 wam_pgbf.2000040103 wam_pgbf.2004040106 ................... ................... wam_pgbf.2004110100 The domain extent is 40W-40E, 25S-40N The grid dimensions are 81 points in the west-east direction and 66 points in the north-south direction with 1 degree spacing in the latitude and longitude directions. For the years 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 the file naming convention is the same as above with the respective date and time labels. There are some sample control file(s) and scripts files in the directory for the year 2003. The creation of control files and index files is left for the individual users, using "grib2ctl.pl" and "gribmap" commands. Monthly averaged Global data files for the year 2000 (avg_2000 directory, after unpacking) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- a) Surface Flux file names: flx200004 flx200005 flx200006 flx200007 flx200008 flx200009 flx200010 a) Pressure level file names: pgb200004 pgb200005 pgb200006 pgb200007 pgb200008 pgb200009 pgb200010 Control and index files are created for all these files and exist in this directory. These are 1degree lat-lon global data files with grid dimension (360x181) - the grib format. In addition there are 3hourly data files averaged for the month whose file names end with 00Z, 03Z etc. As also being grib files, control and index files can be created. The same conventions apply for the datasets for the years 2003 2004, 2005, 2006. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you have any futher questions about the data please contact: Dr. Wassila Thiaw Phone: (301)-763-8000 x 7566 email: wassila.thiaw@noaa.gov or Vadlamani Kumar Phone: (301)-763-8000 x 7522 email: vadlamani.kumar@noaa.gov
