GCIP/ESOP-97 Surface: National Ice Center Great Lakes Ice Cover Data

Summary

The National Ice Center is a multi-agency operational center that represents the US Navy, the US Coast Guard, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Via their WWW page they have available Great Lakes ice cover data for the winter of 1996-1997. These data include WMO sea/freshwater ice symbology charts ("egg code"). Once the lakes ice season starts these charts are produced twice each week for the entire Great Lakes system. The archive also includes metadata, as well as information from the National Weather Service and Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory.
