Idaho Power Company Crouch Sounding Data [IPC] https://data.eol.ucar.edu/dataset/534.019 Summary This dataset contains sounding data for the ice water content from the isokinetic probe (IKP2) at the Crouch site for Seeded and Natural Orographic Wintertime clouds - the Idaho Experiment (SNOWIE). Idaho Power utilizes Lockheed Martin LMS6 Radiosondes and Ground Systems. The LMS6 Radiosondes use GPS data to track the radiosonde’s position and height as well as calculating wind speed and direction. Other meteorological data that are collected is pressure, temperature, and humidity. These are calculated from a suite of onboard sensors that include a chip thermistor temperature sensor and a LMU6 humidity sensor. This data is transmitted to the LMS6 Ground System at a frequency between 400.250 and 405.875 MHz. The data are in ASCII files with fixed width columns. The Crouch sounding file names have the prefix "kcrh". Refer to the readme for further information. Identifiers * Local archive identifier: 534.019 * doi:10.5065/D6J38R93 https://doi.org/10.5065/D6J38R93 Versions 1.0 1.1: There are two changes in this version. The previous version included four files that had the wind speed in knots rather than the expected m/s (kcrh201701191201.txt, kcrh201702201201.txt, kcrh201703011001.txt, and kcrh201703041401.txt). In this version all files now have the wind speed in m/s. The previous version included two files that had the data cut off prior to the end of the sounding. The file kcrh201703011001.txt stopped at 637mb and kcrh201703041401.txt stopped at 302mb. In this version both soundings now extend to 250mb. 1.2: A timestamp issue was found in file kcrh201703050901.txt where the times were two hours ahead of the correct time. The cause of this error is unknown. The times have now been corrected. This correction does change the amount of time between when the sonde was performed and when the flights took place on the same day. Citation Blestrud, D. 2021.
