SNOWIE: FINECAST VDAS Wind Field Model Output
Summary
VDRAS, a 4DVar Four-Dimensional Variational data assimilation system, was used to generate 3-dimensional wind fields for the SNOWIE IOPs. The 300 m WRF simulations were used as input data. Radar data from DOW6 and DOW7, operational and experimental SNOWIE-sounding data, and surface observations were assimilated. The output fields have a 1 km x 1 km x 0.2 km resolution and are centered around the SNOWIE domain.
