1.0  DATA SET OVERVIEW
     

This data set contains hourly resolution soil temperature and moisture
data at 5, 15, 25, 35, 60, 85, 125, 175 cm depths from the Department of 
Energy (DOE) Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Southern Great 
Plains (SGP) Soil Water and Temperature System (SWATS).  These SWATS 
stations are located at many of the ARM SGP Extended Facilities in southern 
Kansas and northern Oklahoma.  This data set covers the period from 20 May 
to 07 July 2003.  These data are in netCDF format.

4.1  Data Format

These data are in network Common Data Form (netCDF) format.  For

4.2  File Naming Conventions

The file names have the following format:

sgpswatsE1.b1.20030701.000700.cdf

where:
        sgpswats is the data type (SWATS)
        E1 represents the facility id (here ARM SGP extended facility 1)
        b1 represents the data level
        2003 - four digit year
        07 - two digit month
        01 - two digit day
        00 - two digit hour
        07 - two digit minute
        00 - two digit second
        cdf - netCDF format extention
