TITLE: Mesonet Michigan LTER Kellogg Biological Station Meteorological Data [JOSS] CONTACTS: Steve Williams P.O. Box 3000 Boulder CO 80307-3000 Email sfw@ucar.edu 303-497-8164 (voice) 970-491-8293 (fax) 1.0 DATA SET OVERVIEW This data set contains hourly resolution surface meteorological data from the Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) Network site at the Kellogg Biological Station (KBS) in southwestern Michigan. This data set covers the period from 20 May to 7 July 2003. The data are in comma delimited ASCII format. 2.0 INSTRUMENT DESCRIPTION 2.1 Instrumentation Campbell Scientifc sensors are connected to a CR10x datalogger, which takes readings every 10 seconds and stores hourly integrated values. Temperature is measured by a Campbell Scientific model 107 temperature probe, housed in a vented shield. Wind speed is measured by a Met One model 014A, wind direction by Met One model 024A. The RH is measured with a Vaisala HMP45C. The quantum sensor is Campbell Scientific model LI190S. The pyranometer is Campbell Scientific LI200S. The pressure is measured with a Vaisala PTB101B barometer. Instruments to measure wind speed and direction are mounted on a tower at 10 m. Light sensors (net solar radiation and photosynthetically active radiation) a thermometer, and an RH probe (with a built-in thermometer) are mounted at about 3 m. Soil moisture and temperature is being monitored on a trial basis near the base of the tower. Precipitation is measured with a Belfort model 5-780 weighing bucket rain gauge. 2.2 Station Location Latitude: 42 24' 33" N Longitude: 85 22' 18" W Elevation 940 ft above sea level 3.0 DATA COLLECTION AND PROCESSING UCAR/JOSS conducted no processing or quality control on these data. 4.0 DATA FORMAT AND FILE NAMING 4.1 Data Format These data are in comma-delimited ASCII format. 1.
