Plans for Distribution
The SHEBA Project Office has acquired all 200
RADARSAT images of the SHEBA region in full-resolution,
calibrated, geocoded format
(see samples here).
We hope to distribute the images in GIF format though a
password-protected web site or ftp site.
RADARSAT is a Canadian satellite, and the copyright
for the images rests with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA).
Through an agreement between CSA and NASA, the Alaska SAR Facility (ASF)
in Fairbanks acquires, processes, archives, and distributes
RADARSAT SAR imagery. The SHEBA Project Office has an account
with ASF through which we obtain RADARSAT images.
In order to save SHEBA investigators the trouble of establishing
their own accounts with ASF, and in order to customize the
image products, the SHEBA Project Office will distribute
RADARSAT images directly to SHEBA investigators.
If you want to obtain RADARSAT SAR images for your
SHEBA investigation, we ask that you sign a copy
of the "ASF Research Agreement". Basically this
agreement says that you will:
- only use the data for research purposes, not commercial purposes;
- not re-distribute the data except to collaborators on the same project;
- send copies of results (e.g. publications) to ASF if requested;
- put the CSA copyright on images that you reproduce for publication.
We would also like you to acknowledge ASF and the SHEBA Project Office
in any results or publications that use this RADARSAT SAR imagery.
To get a copy of the ASF Research Agreement, send your fax number to
Beverly and she'll fax it
to you. Sign and date the Agreement and fax it back to her.
When all the SHEBA data migrates to the JOSS and NSIDC archives,
the RADARSAT imagery will not be included. Instead, the RADARSAT
images will be available through ASF. Now is your chance to take
advantage of easy access to this data.
