NSF NCAR EOL data archive

The NSF NCAR EOL data archive contains atmospheric, meteorological, and other geophysical datasets from operational sources and the scientific research programs and projects for which NSF NCAR EOL has provided data management support. The project list may be sorted by selecting the header keys and full project descriptions and dataset lists are available by selecting the project title. You may search for projects with the form below. You may also search for datasets by keyword or space and time.

Snowfall_Rate: Snowfall Rate Reduction by Pollution Aerosols
SNOWFALL-ISS studied the effects of pollution aerosol loading has on snowfall rates in winter storms that are solely orographic or have a "feeder/seeder" cloud couplet with an orographic cloud component.

MESA: Monsoon Experiment South America
MESA is a component of the CLIVAR-VAMOS program, and its main goal is to investigate the main characteristics and variability of the South American Monsoon Systems (SAMS). The main hypothesis driving MESA is that SAMS provides a physical basis for...

IMPROVE: Improvement of Microphysical Parameterization through Observational Verification Experiment
The goals of the offshore field project IMPROVE-1 (Improvement of Microphysical PaRameterization through Observational Verification Experiment-1) was to isolate the errors in the microphysical scheme by obtaining simultaneous ground-based radar, ground...

VTMX: Vertical Transport and Mixing
VTMX (Vertical Transport and MiXing) is a new program of the Dept of Energy's Environmental Meteorology Program (EMP). It is concerned with vertical transport and mixing in the boundary layer, particularly in stably stratified conditions, weak or...

SGS00: Sub-Gridscale Studies, 2000 (aka HATS)
A field experiment is proposed to study the response of small turbulent eddies to large turbulent motions and to develop better subgrid-scale (SGS) models for large eddy simulation (LES). LES is a popular numerical tool for studying turbulence; in this...

AESOP/TEXASAQS: Texas Air Quality Study
The Texas Air Quality Study was done In August and September of 2000. The study was designed to improve understanding of the factors that control the formation and transport of air pollutants along the Gulf Coast of southeastern Texas. Measurements of...

EBEX: Energy Balance Experiment, 2000
The Energy Balance Experiment (EBEX-2000) studied the ability of state-of-the-art measurements to close the surface energy balance over a surface (a vegetative canopy with large evapotranspiration) where closure has been difficult to obtain. A flood...

PELTI: Passing Efficiency of the Low-Turbulence Inlet
In July, 2000 we tested the new porous-diffuser low-turbulence inlet (LTI), developed at the University of Denver, by flying it and three other inlets on NCAR?s C-130 in the Caribbean, using both dust and sea salt as test aerosols. Aerosols were...
