EOL data archive

The EOL data archive contains atmospheric, meteorological, and other geophysical datasets from operational sources and the scientific research programs and projects for which NCAR/EOL has provided data management support. The project list may be sorted by selecting the header keys and full project descriptions and dataset lists are available by selecting the project title. You may search for projects with the form below. You may also search for datasets by keyword or space and time.

ATLAS: Arctic Transitions in the Land-Atmosphere System
The Land-Atmosphere-Ice Interactions (LAII) Program is part of the Arctic System Science (ARCSS) Program of the National Science Foundation. LAII has overall goals of understanding how the fe edback processes within Arctic system affects global climate...

THERMEX: Thermal Wave Experiment
The Thermal Wave Experiment (THERMEX), conducted in May and early June 1998, used a a unique high-performance motorglider to collect data above Boulder, CO.  The German motorglider used in THERMEX was a Stemme S-10VT turbo with a variable propeller. ...

SCSMEX: The South China Sea Monsoon Experiment
The South China Sea Monsoon Experiment (SCSMEX) was an international experiment designed to understand the key physical processes for the onset, maintenance and variability of the Southeast Asian monsoon. The field phase of SCSMEX was held from 1 May...

ACLAIM: Airborne Coherent Lidar for Advanced In-flight Measurements
The purpose of the ACLAIM program is ultimately to establish the viability of light detection and ranging (lidar) as a forward-looking sensor for turbulence. The goals of this fight test are to: 1) demonstrate that the ACLAIM lidar system operates...

Lake-ICE: Lake-Induced Convection Experiment
The Lake-Induced Convection Experiment (Lake-ICE) will document boundary layer (BL) phenomena over and in the vicinity of Lake Michigan to determine how BL processes are controlled by Mesoscale BL convective structures and interactions between these...

SNOWBAND: Snowband Dynamics (coincident w/ Lake-ICE)
SNOWBAND seeks to understand the dynamic and thermodynamic structures of heavy precipitation bands in the northwest quadrant of cyclones and in the "reverse lake-effect" regions west of Lake Michigan. The goal of the project is to determine the...

SHEBA: Surface Heat Budget of the Arctic Ocean Project
SHEBA is motivated by the large discrepancies among simulations by global climate models (GCMs) of the present and future climate in the arctic and by uncertainty about the impact of the arctic on climate change. These problems arise from an incomplete...
