The Barrow Area Information Database (BAID) power pole layer includes data for the villages of Barrow and Atqasuk on Alaska's North Slope.
BAID is designed to enhance logistics and research planning efforts. The availability of power is of interest for locating instrumentation and for use in migratory bird studies.

This data set is being archived as part of the Barrow Area Spatial Data Infrastructure effort. This project is made possible with funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF Award OPP-0454996) and the US Geological Survey (USGS Award Number: 03HQAG0177).
This data set is topologically correct.
This database is an ongoing project.
For RTK and post processed surveys the precision is greater than .05 m. For locations that were mapped via air photo interpretation +/- 3'
Trimble Survey Controller Version 7.72 precision parameters.
For RTK and post processed surveys the precision is greater than .04 m. This is a function Geoid 99 as applied to the NAD 83 Datum for Northern Alaska.
Trimble Survey Controller Version 7.72 precision parameters.
The power pole data was compiled from shapefiles from Aerometric for areas within the city limits (in which power poles were digitized off aerial photography) and by students from Michigan State University's Arctic Ecology Lab and the University of Texas at El Paso Systems Ecology Lab for the outlying areas using Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) technology which is post-processed with Trimble Geomatics Office. There is no indication if a power line is running between the poles. In some cases, the power lines are no longer connected. It would be best to check with local authorities for data on active lines including the Barrow Utilities & Electric Coop Inc. (BUECI), Arctic Slope Telephone Association Cooperative (ASTAC), GCI, etc.
