File UWCOMP.CSV This file contains the explanation of the data in the Southern Surveyor underway data set taken during cruise SS 11/95, part of the ACE-1 experiment. Each column heading is explained, and any caveats for these preliminary data sets are noted. All data are presented as 30 minute averages, centred around the hour and half hour. The 30 minute averages are derived from 1 minute averaged data. Column 1: Julian day, with time in half-hour increments. Column 2: Decimal Latitude: 4253.83 is 42 degrees 53.83 minutes Column 3: This is South Column 4: Decimal Longitude: 14721.01 is 147 degrees 53.01 minutes Column 5: E: All longitudes are East. Column 6: GPS_Speed: This is the doppler log record of ships speed and represents an accurate vessel speed through the water. Column 7: GPS_Heading: Ships heading from the gyro compass. Column 8: EK500_depth: depth of water under the ships keel. Zero values mean the echo sounder has lost bottom lock, and should be ignored. Column 9: DT_Air_Temp: Air temperature in degrees celcius Column 10: DT_Wind_Speed_Knots: wind speed in knots Column 11: True wind direction: Column 12: DT_Light: masthead photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). Column 13: Thermosalinograph salinity: NB THIS IS UNCORRECTED DATA Column 14: Thermosalinograph salinity: NB THIS HAS BEEN CORRECTED USING THE CTD SURFACE SALINITY DATA. IT IS THE DATA TO USE. Column 15: Thermosalinograph temperature Column 16: Fluoresence measured in the thermosalinograph outflow water. Column 17: Data from column 17 corrected to chlorophyll a using a regression of fluoresence to chla from discrete samples.
