The 4 consisted of 1) Hourly Metar surface observations, 2) 12 Hourly rawinsonde mandatory and significant level data, 3) Daily tropical outlooks, and 4) Daily operations area forecasts. Each of these datasets was taken from the Diego Garcia web site at appropriate frequencies to collect all the data. Gaps in the data do exist due to entirely to the reliability of product generation at the Diego Garcia site. The period of record for these datasets is 1/1/99-4/6/99. Hourly Metar Surface Observations --------------------------------- These are hourly reports of weather conditions at the Diego Garcia base in the Southern Indian Ocean. The reports are in ASCII but are coded according to the WMO Metar coding standard. 12 Hourly Rawinsonde Mandatory and Significant Level Data --------------------------------------------------------- These are reports from the twice daily launch of rawinsonde balloons at the Diego Garcia base. These reports are in ASCII but are coded according to the WMO TTAA/PPBB coding standard. Product reliability was less than great for this particular product so there may be frequent gaps in the data. Daily Tropical Outlooks ----------------------- This product is a GIF image produced once each day at Diego Garcia. The outlook is a forecast for the next 24 hours and shows generally synoptic features across most of the eastern hemisphere, centered on the Central Indian Ocean. Low and High pressure centers, as well as jet stream location, tropical cyclone position and areas of extensive cloud cover/showers are generally depicted. Daily Operations Area Forecasts ------------------------------- This product contains a written discussion by the Diego Garcia Forecasters, prepared on a daily basis. The operations area refers to the immediate operations area of Diego Garcia. The forecast contain information on conditions expected during the next 24 hours in the harbor (Diego Garcia) and over open seas in the vicinity of Diego Garcia. This product is in ASCII format.
