Data from Svalbard for ITEX Community Synthesis Workshop, Boulder 2000 Data are from a polar semi-desert site in Ny-lesund, (78o56'N, 11o50'E) from 1991, 1993 and 1995 Notes: Each plot contains data from one permanent quadrat area. The point quadrat had 121 points (7 x 7), each point 5 cm apart. Only the first hit was recorded, as the canopy was usually single-layered and low. The data are from mid-season at peak biomass for the years 1991, 1993 and 1995. The two treatments are control and open-topped chambers ('tents') There are nominally four replicate plots of each treatment, except the control only has three because of a change in plot codes. I have included the records of dead vegetation in the data file in the CODE column by adding a suffix 'D' e.g. SAXOPPD, and in the CONDITION column with a 'D'. I know I am supposed to only use vegetation that is living, but this does not leave me with much given that 70% of the site is bare ground! I thought these rows could be deleted at a later stage if necessary. I have no data on CANOPYHT or MICROTOP and have left REPEAT blank.
