readme.dataset_changes Documentation of changes made to MIPS BAMEX dataset (S.Paech) Below is a list of updates/changes made to the MIPS BAMEX dataset: - 8/25/04: dataset with updates below submitted to JOSS BAMEX data archive. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SURFACE STATION DATA: - 6/04: discovered that rain gauge 1 data had been recorded as 0.1 for each bucket tip - should have been 0.01 (inches) (or 0.254 mm) --> changed to 0.254 mm. Data did not need to be re-plotted since gauge 2 data had been plotted. --> updated readme.sfc: - updated gauge 1 units (to mm) - found that I had descriptions for column 5 & 6 around the wrong way - renumbered example data line columns starting at 0 instead of 1 - 8/04: converted pressure data to kPa (added 95) and wrote out to 3 dec. places instead of 4 (instrument resolution is 0.001 kPa at 1 measurement/second). - 8/04: found out that conversion factor for pressure sensor was incorrect up until 6 June. --> corrected & converted to mb 5/20-6/5 with formula: corrected_press(mb) = (((press_value/.1)+350.)/.184)*.104+800. - just converted rest (6/6-end) to mb - changed number of decimal places to 2 when converting (see accuracy note above). - changed units & example data line press value in readme.sfc to mb ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIPS DEPLOYMENT INFORMATION DATA FILE (bamexlog.dat) - 6/04: made corrections to bamexlog.dat - Julian day 150 was corrected to 151 - removed dates - only want Julian day - 8/04: bamexlog.dat - altitude was in ft but labeled as m --> converted to m. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DOCUMENTATION - 6/04: Electronic Field Mill (EFM) documentation - data format documentation has been included (EFM_documentation.PDF) - readme.efm has been updated - 8/04: readme files for all instruments updated (reference to ihoplog.dat & MIPS website added. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
