ASE: Arctic Stratus Experiment

Summary

The main objective of the Arctic Stratus Experiment (ASE) was to gather an internally consistent set of radioactive and microphysical data on Arctic stratus, as well as to concurrently observe the state parameters, wind and turbulence to provide a database for dynamical models and energy budget studies. Measurements of both radioactive fluxes and the turbulent fluxes of heat, momentum and moisture in arctic stratus were required for the desired parameterizations. The data is also valuable for the calibration and verification of satellite retrieval techniques in the Arctic.
