PLOWS: NOAA/NCEP Stage IV Daily Precipitation Imagery

Summary

This data set contains daily Stage IV precipitation for the NWS Central Region produced by the NOAA/National Weather Service Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service. The images have roughly 4km resolution and depict 24 hour total precipitation ending at 1200 UTC. A multisensor approach is used to obtain the observed precipitation. The WSR-88D radar precipitation estimates are compared to the gauge reports and a bias is derived and applied to the radar field. The radar and gauge fields are then combined into the multisensor field.

This data set contains imagery from the two Profiling of Winter Storms (PLOWS) field phases, 6 February to 30 March 2009 and 27 October 2009 to 10 March 2010. No imagery are available for the period between the field phases.
