UMRBPP: NIDS KUDX Vertically Integrated Liquid (VIL) Data Set

Summary

This data set contains the Nexrad Information Dissemination Service (NIDS) Vertically Integrated Liquid (VIL) product. The VIL products are generated whenever precipitation echoes are detected. It displays VIL values summed for all elevation angles within the volume scan. It covers a range 230 km with a resolution of 2.2 by 2.2 nmi. It is updated once every volume scan (typically every 5-10 min) and includes 16 data levels. The units are kg/m^2. Data are available for most periods during the UMRBPP (5 April to 5 May 1999). Data are available from the Rapid City, SD (KUDX) radar site. These data are in the original NIDS format. These data were not quality controlled by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research/Joint Office for Science Support (UCAR/JOSS). This data set is quite large in terms of the number of files (4500). Please take this into consideration when placing your data order.
