DEEPWAVE: Low Rate (LRT - 1 sps) Navigation, State Parameter, and Microphysics Flight-Level Data [(NCAR-EOL-RAF)]

Summary

This data set includes airborne measurements obtained from the NSF/NCAR Hiaper Gulfstream-V (GV) aircraft (Tail Number N677F) during the DEEPWAVE project. This dataset contains low rate navigation, state parameter, and microphysics flight-level data in netCDF format. These are final, production data (with calibrated values in engineering units) having the highest-quality that RAF can provide. DGPS data have been merged into these files and gust pod data has been blanked out when |ROLL| > 5. The altitude of the aircraft above the Earth's surface has been calculated using the WGS-84 terrain height database.

Versions
  • 0.1 (2014-09-05):

These are PRELIMINARY FIELD-PHASE data and are not for publication. Final, production data (with calibrated values in engineering units) having the highest-quality that RAF can provide will be available within 6 months of the end of the project

  • 1.0 (2015-03-24):

These are final, production data (with calibrated values in engineering units) having the highest-quality that RAF can provide. DGPS data have been merged into these files and gust pod data has been blanked out when |ROLL| > 5.

  • 1.1 (2015-05-26):

Same as version 1.0 but with the addition of two variables: ALTG_SRTM = Altitude of the aircraft above the Earth\'s surface, WGS-84; SFC_SRTM = Elevation of the Earth\'s surface below the aircraft position, WGS-84.

  • 1.2 (2015-06-09):

These files correct a blankout problem found in version 1.0 and propagated to version 1.1. They also add a pitch correction for the Schuler oscillation, and add variables PITCH and WIP.

(Only the current version of the data is available to order. If you have questions about a prior version, please email us.)
