Forward-looking Digital Camera Movies - preliminary

Project:

Summary

During the Wintertime Investigation of Transport, Emission, and Reactivity (WINTER) project, the NSF/NCAR C-130 (Tail Number C130_N130AR) flew digital cameras for in-flight video capture. The original images are 1280x960 pixels and were recorded at 1 frame/second. Images taken after dark have been stripped from this archive. Remaining images were converted to Quicktime movie files. The movies are h.264 codec playable with Quicktime (Mac and Windows), xine, (linux) and mplayer (many platforms). The movies are set to play back at 640x480 pixels and 15 fps so the entire flight plays back in about 30 minutes. Fast-forward, reverse, scrubbing, etc. is possible in most players. Files are typically 300 MB in size. Preliminary movies were only created for the first 6 flights.
